Sunday May 29th, 2011 is Montreal Museums Day. On this day 32 museums around Montreal are offering free admissions to their exhibits. It’s a great inexpensive way to go through a few museums and get a sense of what they are all about.

Some museums that could be of interest to children include the Montreal Biodome, The Biosphere, Montreal Science Center, The Redpath Museum and the Montreal Planetarium.

Not only are the exhibits free but shuttle buses are provided to take you from museum to museum. There are seven different bus circuits so you need to plan out your itinerary depending on which museums you want to visit.

To get complete information on this fun, educational and inexpensive activity visit the official Montreal Museum Day website.

Sleep Away and Day Camps For Summer 2011

Filed under: Family, Event, Activity — webmaster @ Feb 20th, 2011

It is not too early to start making plans for your children’s camp activities for this coming summer. Montreal Families is once again hosting a camp fair for parents looking to register children for summer activities.

The Summer Camp Fair will take place on Sunday February 20th from 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM. It will be held at the Holiday Inn Pointe Claire located at 6700 Trans Canada Highway near St. Jean Blvd. Admission and Parking is Free. Parents are encouraged to bring the children.

The Camp Fair brings together representatives of more than 50 summer camps from Quebec, Ontario and the United States. The event will give parents a chance to meet the staff from various day and residential (sleepover) camps.

This is a perfect solution for busy parents who don’t have the time to visit camps individually or do extensive research online. Staff and directors attending the fair will be displaying photos, showing video footage and handing out brochures. If parents find a summer program that interests them, most camps will allow you to sign your child up on the spot.

There will be a camp to suit almost everyone, no matter what his or her age or interest.

Organic Apple Picking Near Montreal, Quebec

Filed under: Family, Activity — webmaster @ Sep 16th, 2010

September and October are prime apple picking months in Quebec. We are fortunate to have a large number of apple orchards within a short drive of Montreal.

If you are looking for organic apples that aren’t sprayed with pesticides then your options are considerably reduced. Most Quebec apple growers spray their orchards with pesticides several times a year to keep bugs and disease away from the fruit.

For a source of organic, pesticide free apples you can visit the Maniadakis Organic Orchard in Franklin which is less than an hours drive south of Montreal. At this certified organic orchard you will find a wide variety of apples grown including Spartan, Cortland, Golden Delicious, Jersey Mac and McIntosh. You can find a description of the organic farming techniques used as well as the benefits of organic apples on their website. Here’s a short video featuring the orchard to give you a taste of what to expect.

If you are looking for a fun outdoor activity for the family apple picking is a good choice. At the Maniadakis Orchard there is a small wooden castle and play area for the kids as well as picnic tables if you want to have lunch or a snack in a beautiful outdoor setting.

The orchard is open weekends from 10 am to 6 pm.

Check on our Apple Orchards Map for Maniadakis Organic Orchard to find out exactly where it is.
